Costa de la Luz Details

 

Although the area has long been a popular destination for Spanish tourists, the Costa de la Luz has more recently become a popular holiday area for foreigners as well, with the most frequently visiting nationalities being German and French. Unfortunately, with the rapidly increasing amount of tourism over the years, there has been a considerable amount of damage done to the local environment.

Beyond the obvious attractions such as great weather and good beaches, there are a number of other activities to participate in such as boating and golf and great dining. Nowadays, the Costa de la Luz has a number of protected reserves. These include Donana National Park which contains some of Spain’s endangered species such as the Iberian Lynx and the Spanish Flacon.

Other places of interest include theBay ofCadiz, the coasts of the southern area of Andalucía, Barbate’s salt marches and the coast cliffs of La Brena. Both of the latter are situation in the Brena –Barbate National Park. Another famous area is that of the wetlands surrounding the deltas to the Tinto and Odiel rivers where one can find an abundance of interesting avian life such as flamingos and storks.

In alphabetical order, here are the towns and other areas that are of most interest to visitors; Ayamonte, Bolonia, Cadiz, Chiclana de la Frontera, Chipiona, Conil de la Frontera, El Portil, Lepe, El Puerto de Santa María, Isla Cristina, Los Canos de Meca, Matalascanas, Punta Umbría, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Tarifa, Vejer de la Frontera and Zahara de los Atunes,.

Some other places worth seeing but not quite as popular include Cartaya, Isla Canela, Islantilla, El Terron, El Rompido, La Antilla, Mazagon, Puerto Réal, Rota, Sancti Petri and San Fernando.     Read More

The Costa de la Luz, or Coast of the Light in English, is an area of the coast of Andalucía on the Atlantic Ocean. Extending from Tarifa in the south of Spain, it runs along the coast of Cadiz and Huelva, finally reaching the delta of the river Guadiana.
